Agricola Bellaria produces Taurasi wine in the countryside around Montefalcone, in the province of Avellino. This is one of the very few areas where it is authorised to grow Aglianico, the grape variety from which Taurasi wine is made. Following the strict production standards set out in the technical policy of production, and after six years of ageing, the Aglianico grapes acquire the characteristic features of Taurasi. The origin, characteristics and production methods required for the DOCG appellation have been confirmed by a certified quality auditor.
The exceptional nature of Taurasi is due to the coexistence of different factors such as soil, weather and fertile vineyards in the Irpinia hills, located at an altitude of between 500 and 600 metres.
Taurasi wine is aged in oak barrels for twelve months. It undergoes various organoleptic treatments that give it its characteristic features and flavours.
The Taurasi then undergoes 'molecular maceration', a day-long process in which the juice and rind come into contact under controlled conditions.
The fruity and intense flavour of the Taurasi wine is complemented by delightful notes of vanilla, liquorice and chocolate. With an ideal serving temperature of 16°-18°C, Taurasi is ideal for elegant dinners.
The pleasant flavour of Taurasi wine can be more or less intense depending on the alcohol content. Its typical colour is ruby red with an orange tinge, which becomes stronger as the wine ages.
The origins of Taurasi wine date back to the pre-Roman era. The Aglianico grape variety from which Taurasi wine is made was called "Hellenic", or originating from Greece. Taurasi wine was named after Taurasia, a small village that was captured by the Romans after their victory over Hyrpinus in 80 BC. The Romans then moved thousands of settlers from Liguria to work in the vineyards.
