Description

Lagvinari is a small organic winery founded in 2011 by Dr Irakli Glonti, a former physician and geologist who works closely with local winegrowers. Glonti's wines are produced using local autochthonous grape varieties and ancient winemaking techniques, with the aim of promoting Georgian agriculture and preserving its rich winemaking heritage.
Lagvinari, Otskhanuri Sapere is a red dry wine made from the very rare autochthonous grape variety Otskhanuri Sapere, the name of which translates as "Coloured from Otskhana". The birthplace of this variety is the village of Otskhana in Western Georgia. Nowadays this variety grows only in the western part of the country, mainly in Imereti, where it is considered the best red variety. Wines from Otshanuri Sapere have an intense ruby colour, a characteristic tannin taste with a dense structure and high acidity, and a long storage potential.
Grapes are grown using organic methods. Imereti technology is used for wine production, according to which maceration is carried out on the mezze of berries previously separated from the ridges. Fermentation in Kvevri clay vessels lasts for 1.5-2 months, i.e. 2 times less than in Kakheti technology. The egg-shape of Kvevri favours the natural circulation of the must. The wine is not filtered or clarified before bottling, the sulphite content is low.
The wine is purplish red in colour.
The taste of the wine is rich, juicy, with good acidity, velvety tannins and a long aftertaste with cherry and chocolate nuances.
The aroma of the wine is filled with tones of plum and blackcurrant, notes of thyme, vegetal nuances.
We suggest opening the wine 1 hour before drinking and using an aerator.
