Out in the wine heartlands of Kakheti in eastern Georgia sits the pretty hilltop town of Sighnaghi overlooking the Alazani Valley with the Caucasus Mountains to the north, and it is here that brother and sister winemakers John and Jane Okruashvili are based. Their 7 hectares of organic vineyards produce fruit from eight indigenous varieties and all their wine is fermented and matured in traditional clay qvevri vessels buried underground. Native varieties organically grown and wine traditionally made. Made with the native red Tavkveri grape that has spent 18 months in qvevri and bottled unfined and infiltered this rosé is ruby cherry in colour, almost a light red, and utterly delicious. Lots of red fruit flavours, sour cherry, hints of pepper, super refreshing and really quite elegant on the palate. Rated ‘Outstanding’ by Decanter Magazine.
